What do art therapy sessions involve?
“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” ― Lori Gottlieb, Maybe You Should Talk to Someone: A Therapist, Her Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed
- Creative Expression
- Unleash your inner voice and explore your emotions freely in a judgement-free zone.
- Permission & Empowerment
- Give yourself permission to reclaim your power and live authentically.
- Creative Process
- Discover the power of diverse materials to unlock deeper self-understanding and well-being.
The therapist introduces a wide range of art materials, like paints, clay, pastels, collage elements, and more, tailoring the selection to the client’s interests and therapeutic goals.
These materials become a bridge to unlock different avenues of self-expression and exploration.
The therapist provides gentle guidance, offering prompts or themes to spark exploration, or allowing for free creativity, whichever empowers the client most.
Throughout the process, the client is encouraged to explore the meaning and reflections that emerge alongside the art making.
The therapist facilitates a discussion centered on the client’s artwork, gently encouraging them to reflect on thoughts, feelings, and experiences sparked during the creative process.
The artwork itself becomes a tangible window into the client’s inner world, offering valuable insights and avenues for further exploration.
Through this process, clients can gain a deeper understanding of their emotions, thoughts, and behaviours, potentially identifying patterns or themes that impact their well-being.
Taking the first step to seek help can feel daunting, but the rewards are immense. It allows you to make sense of your inner world and the world around you, ultimately creating space for you to thrive.
