When a Cat Meets Art Therapist: Ajushi’s Heartwarming Role

Meet Ajushi, our favourite meowing receptionist! This fluffy ball of joy was a gift that has since become an irreplaceable part of the Kit Creations studio.

Ajushi was rescued from an automated car park where he was stuck. Initially, we were concerned that our studio might not be the best environment for him, so we considered finding him a new home. But he quickly adjusted and has become an amazing companion for everyone who visits.

His Grounding Presence

Every morning, Ajushi starts my day with a request for “sayang” (affection), which instantly grounds me. For our clients, his warm presence makes a huge difference when they arrive. When he joins our sessions, it feels like he’s there to support them on their healing journeys.

Inviting Time to Slow Down

Ajushi has a super cute way of asking for affection. When he flops onto the floor with his belly up, it’s not a trap—it’s his way of inviting you to sit down and pet him! His cheeks and chin are his favourite spots for scratches, and he also enjoys a good pat on the back. Though his belly isn’t his top spot for attention, he tolerates it occasionally. If you miss his cues with his pink paws, he’ll give you a nibble as a reminder after three soft warnings!

When he asks for “sayang,” his meows might sound like he’s scolding you, but don’t be deceived—he’s just asking for more affection!

Connecting Through Play

Ajushi’s lively meows and playful nature make him a hit with everyone who visits. Clients often jokingly call him a dog, charmed by his antics as he bounces around the studio with his short tail held high in excitement. With his favourite toy in hand, he’ll leap to your side, ready to play with his mischievous eyes sparkling. Playtime isn’t just for kids—it’s for everyone!

Finding Comfort with Pats and Strokes

For many first-time clients, Ajushi is like a friendly orientation leader, making them feel at ease and welcome. While therapists can’t offer physical comfort, Ajushi fills that gap with his cuddly charm. Petting him provides a soothing sensory experience, helping clients ground themselves and ease feelings of loneliness or fear of judgement, creating a safe space for emotional exploration.

Embracing Ajushi’s Presence

Ajushi isn’t just a playful buddy; he’s a therapy-aid cat, a warm greeter, and a comforting presence who supports mental health journeys in ways we didn’t anticipate. We’re incredibly thankful to have him as part of the Kit Creations family.

Of course, Ajushi’s presence doesn’t replace the need for a qualified therapist, but if you think a furry friend could be helpful, Ajushi might just be the companion to ease your mental health journey too.
